🎛️ Crystal Kay x Jordan Knight - One (Random J Mashup)

After my mashup of Crystal Kay’s “Can’t Be Stopped” and Janet Jackson’s All for You-album-track-which-shoulda-been-a-proper-single “Come On Get Up”, I was truly taken aback at how good the two songs fit together. Even though I knew in my mind it would work, the end result still ‘gagged me’ as the kids say. And something really stuck with me — how good a fit Crystal Kay is for Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis’ sound. It’s no wonder that “Kirakuni” and “I Can’t Wait” turned out as good as they did. Of course they would!

Crystal, Jam & Lewis is a great combo. Crystal has a very similar energy to Janet and her music has always hit a similar sweet spot. To such a point that when I did the reverse and put Janet on a Crystal song, it also fit like a glove. So I was always thinking about what other Crystal Kay song could work on a Jam & Lewis production. And eventually I landed here.

Jordan Knight’s “Give It to You” was always the jam. But it did always make me laugh how his man was at a fairground in Gap cargo trousers and a white rollneck, whilst singing about how he’s gonna turn some pussy out. But the song was so good that you just let it slide.
