As part of working on Hypertension, I wound up tweaking the mixes to 9 of the 11 songs on the standard edition of the album. And I would have liked to have uploaded some of the mixes which went through the most notable changes as standalone songs to YouTube. But every time I tried to, Kylie’s team blocked the hell out of them. Only a couple of songs from Tension seemed to be allowed to be uploaded and “Hands” was one of them, so…here it is.
“Hands” was one of the songs I liked least on Tension. Not only did it feel like a song which would have been a better fit for Kylie’s Disco album, but it was one of the numerous songs in existence which seemed to riff off of Doja Cat’s “Say So”. I just thought the song was so blatantly derivative and I would have rather had another song take its place on Tension. Like, girl.
“Heavenly Body” was RIGHT there. But working on Hypertension I found myself gaining new appreciation for a bunch of the songs I wasn’t overly keen on at first, “Hands” being one of them. And with some strings from Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” thrown in and a transition into “Where Does the DJ Go?”, I really wound up quite liking “Hands”.
