Nakata not consistently being able to nail or set a mood with intros has been a bit of a thing for a while now. Like, GIRL. You couldn’t have come up with a better intro for “The Light”? You couldn’t have given “Cosmic Treat” an intro which was a bit more lush and disco? “Nebula Romance” doesn’t have a terrible intro — it’s nowhere near the nothing intro of “The Light” and the slightly mismatched intro of “Cosmic Treat”. But it did feel lacking to me.
And whilst it is nice to have another song where Perfume aren’t singing super high, are singing closer to their natural voices and are giving us SOME harmonies — the lack of vocal production and mixing felt really noticeable to me. The song has these pockets in it where there should be something of the vocals — even if it’s just a delay / echo — but there just isn’t. And there were moments where it would have made sense to have had Perfume harmonise, but they don’t.
So I chose to make an Extended Mix which adds in a longer intro and plays around with some of the vocals.
